Project name: Enhanced Building Information Model (EBIM)
Project manager: TBA
Project aim: The aim of this project will be the creation of a customised 3-D mapping and navigation system, called the MobiBiz Enhanced Building Information Model, for complex built environments. The EBIM platform will place models in their actual geo-spacial context and enable collaboration and the addition of value-added layers of meta-data.
Project description: Kailaz Software will create a navigable, searchable and interactive 3D model of a complex physical structure based on existing 3D CAD diagrams. The first and most basic use of the MobiBiz EBIM platform will be for physical navigation of the site – e.g. directing passengers to the correct terminal in an airport. The platform will also allow the addition of layers of metadata, such as security system information. This metadata will be searchable within the model, offering a single, comprehensive resource for owners, contractors, subcontractors, and tenants. As an example: For maintenance purposes, information will be available on who has designed/built/repaired a given aspect of the modelled building; what has been done to it; where did it come from and where is it located within the building; when it was manufactured/installed/repaired; and why were these actions taken. Asset management, personnel tracking, and access control will also be enhanced. Onsite end users will be able to access the model on mobile devices or on dedicated computer kiosks throughout the site, if necessary. They will be able to use fly-through navigation to view and/or edit information on locations and resources within the pilot site. The platform will be hosted and administered by Kailaz. It will be made available to the building owner and participating third parties for metadata input.
