Develop solution

DO always check the rechargeable batteries life and how much memory is available on the hardware. Software will need to be tested to make sure that information is not lost when power is temporarily lost.

DO be aware that although as many staff need to be consulted as possible some will not have much time in the office to spare, an organised showing of hardware options etc can help things run smoothly.

DO be aware that software development delays happen just like construction projects. Don't promise results to clients before you have the system in place.

DO check everything, compatibility needs to be tested for all hardware/software and back office.

DO check the solution in the environment that it will be used in. Any use IT in the construction environment can have issues that haven't been thought of in development.

DO design the solution to be modular so that it can be used by other parts of the business or scaleable so that it could be used across the whole business. Flexibility is key. Few good solutions are perfect on day one.

DO test systems, don't just assume that it will work because they say it will. Compatibility needs to be tested for all hardware/software and back office.

DO try to keep it simple. The digital pen is a success for simple forms and sketching/notes as you don't need to learn any new skills. People who have been asked to use very friendly solutions often try to use them for other applications as well.

DON'T keep changing systems. Hardware and platforms are being updated fast. Find one that works and stick to it for a while instead of changing all the time to updated versions unless they offer real business worth or are updated under contract.
