Tablet PCs
A Pen Tablet is a PC that has a touch screen. Most of the Pen Tablets do not have built-in keyboards however users will be able to plug in keyboards if they want to. The main method of input is handwriting recognition similar to transcribers on the PDA. The handwriting recognition accepts printing and handwriting. The operating system stores the handwriting as a graphic and the converted text in the notepad application. The user therefore has the ability go back and forth between the handwriting and the converted text for nuances that the recogniser may have missed. Also, the handwriting recognition can be done after the notes have been entered. It does not have to be done real time.
The Pen Tablet runs a full desktop operating system but utilises an electronic pen (called a stylus) for input. Pen computers generally require special operating systems that support handwriting recognition enabling writing on screen or a tablet instead of typing on a keyboard. They are often ìdockedî when in the office enabling use as a desktop PC.
