In December 2006 Argent (Kings Cross) Limited was granted planning permission for an 8m sq ft mixed use development covering 67 acres of brown field land in Central London, just north of Kings Cross station. The scheme, which will cost £2.5bn and take up to 15 years to complete, includes the construction of 5m sq ft of new office space, up to 2,000 new homes and serviced apartments, and 500,000 sq ft of retail. It also includes the provision of hotels, student accommodation, leisure, health, cultural, community and educational facilities amongst others. Kiers construction and rail divisions were appointed to manage two projects on the site. Hence, they required a wireless internet and telephone communication service onsite.
