COMIT (Construction Opportunities for Mobile IT) Australia is an industry led community to foster the adoption and application of mobile technology to improve project execution. It does this by
- Promoting controlled & observed pilot projects to lower adoption risk
- Reduce barriers for technology companies to test new ideas
- Communicating the benefits of mobile technology to the Construction Industry
COMIT Australia is a spin off from COMIT UK (http://www.comitproject.org.uk/), which was launched in August 2003 and part funded by the UK Department of Trade and Industry. COMIT UK is now a self-funding organisation with 40 paying members.
Vision:
Personnel in the construction industry - from executives to field workers using mobile technology as a part of normal everyday project execution workflow to improve efficiency of project delivery.
Mission:
COMIT Australias Mission is to
- Create an active community that fosters the exploration, development and implementation of mobile computing and communication technologies by connecting Industry, Universities and Technology companies.
- Promote the use of mobile technology within the Australian construction industry by spreading best practice, promoting new developments and facilitating understanding between technology providers and construction companies.
Strategy:
- Support, instigate and promote case studies and demonstration projects in a safe environment to reduce risk and increase uptake of new technology by industry.
- Cultivate engagement between startup technology companies and industry end users, in order to lower the barrier to entry for testing of new innovative ideas.
- Engage with like-minded organisations and actively communicate the benefits of mobile technology to current and future construction members through publications, meetings, conferences and links with educational institutions.
